Today’s Article: Domain Should Match the Company Name
According to PC Magazine, a domain name is an organization’s unique name on the Internet. The name combined with a generic top-level domain such as .com makes up the Internet domain name. For example, Brand Door is our company name and branddoor.com is our domain name. The original top-level domains were created in 1985, with .com being the most desired and today your best branded companies worldwide use it.
By 2014, there were more than 71 million registered domain names on the Internet. Finding an available .com today takes time, creativity, patience and skill.
Your domain name should match your company name without using a hyphen. If your company is going to be the leader in your industry, have multiple locations, be national, international or you are going to franchise it – recommend a .com address.
If you are starting or re-branding a local company and cannot find a .com matching domain name without using a hyphen, a .net can be an acceptable alternative.
Action Step: Once you have an idea for a name – look it up to see if the matching domain name is available.
