A smile is a powerful way to promote your brand, whether it is attracting new customers or retaining existing ones.
“Smiling is not just a universal means of communicating, but it is contagious. There is a subconscious innate drive to smile when we see one.” This sets up a more positive connection when we first meet new potential customers and strengthens relationships with existing ones.
A Penn State University study confirmed that when we smile we not only appear more likeable and courteous, but we’re actually perceived to be more competent. These qualities: likeable, courteous and competent promote a good brand.
A UC Berkeley 30-year longitudinal study measured smiles of students and found the widest smiles ranked the highest in fulfilling and long-lasting marriages, scored higher on standardized tests of well-being and general happiness, and were more inspiring to others.
Promote a company culture of smiling and a happy work environment. It is good for employees and good for customers. The more employees smile, laugh and enjoy what they are doing, productivity goes up and your brand becomes stronger.
Next time when you walk into a business, look for the smile or lack of one. Businesses that have more smiles, have a better chance of sustainable success and a stronger brand.
