There are three ways to create and implement a brand: In-house, À la carte or Outside Agency There are benefits and challenges to each.
The first question to answer is do you have the time and expertise to create and implement a successful brand. Expertise includes development of a brand promise, name, tagline, logo, elevator speech and brand implementation. If you have the time, but not the expertise, the Best Practices on Brand Door can assist you in creating and launching a successful brand. This approach is also good if you do not have a budget for branding.
À la carte Approach
If you have the time, a budget of less than $5,000, some expertise or are willing to learn brand best practices, this may be the approach for you. It is cafeteria style. You contract for the services you need like a brand strategy, name, logo, tagline, elevator speech etc. or brand implementation. There are services that can help create and implement that successful brand.
Outside Agency Approach
If you do not have the time or expertise and have a budget of $5,000 or greater, an outside agency approach may be the way for you to go. Outside agencies have been through the branding process with other clients and can help you with the development of a brand promise, name, tagline, logo, elevator speech and/or brand implementation.
Do not be in a hurry just to get open or launch a new brand. Remember you only have one chance for a first impression – do it right the first time. Create a solid foundation to build your business on. The brand is the solid foundation. It is easier to grow a profitable company when you attract people based on what they desire versus having to try selling them something.
Action Step: Based on your expertise, budget, time and how much you want to do yourself, select an approach to developing and/or implementing your brand: do it yourself, use some outside help or use an outside agency?
